D'Evelyn Announcements 13 December 2018

~Scientific research has proven that laughter promotes blood flow, and blood flow promotes memory retention.  Hence: Going to the Holiday Bru-Ha!Ha! improv show tomorrow night will help you do better on finals!  Doors open at 6:30 with the show starting at 7:00.

~Boys’ Mentoring will meet in their rooms tomorrow during 7th hour for our annual white elephant gift exchange.  Students DO NOT need to bring gifts, we will supply them.  This will be a fun time.  See Mr. Northway if you have a conflict.

~Interact is hosting a toy drive for Westgate Elementary through tomorrow.  Please bring a $10 toy to put in one of the boxes we have set up around the school. If you don’t, you’ll be on the naughty list this year!

~Jags, please spread the joy of the holiday season by donating to 3rd period class for National French Honor Society’s collection drive. Items donated will be used in care packages for deployed troops, veterans, first responders, wounded heroes and caregivers. Items such as wipes, batteries, travel size deodorant, & hand warmers. Also, please include any letters that express your gratitude for the people who protect our freedom!

~Red Rocks Community College - Idea Lab - Open House on Jan 3rd from 1 to 4 pm.  This is a fun hands-on workshop in engineering, robotics, cyber security and computer science.  Must RSVP.  See counseling if interested.

~There’s still time to participate in “Paws for a Cause” -- the D’Evelyn Giving Tree Gift Drive. Stop by the Giving Tree display in the main office.  Each of the Paw ornaments on the tree has a gift or age on the front as well as instructions on the back.  Feel free to take an ornament or two and then bring back the unwrapped gift before December 18th.

~Join other rising junior and senior high school students in a challenging 4 week summer class in an exciting new program called Engineering Innovation.  This is a Johns Hopkins freshman engineering course taught at Red Rocks Community College.  You can earn college credit too.  If interested see counseling.

~Juniors interested in learning more about the college process and getting a head start please come to Counseling to sign up for our Junior Seminar Class for 2nd semester. We will address the college essay, help you understand what colleges are looking for and how to differentiate yourself. The deadline to sign up is tomorrow.

~The December Scholars of the Month are as follows:

Josh McFeeters: Josh consistently contributes to class discussions and has an ability to articulate difficult computer science concepts in a way that benefits all of our understanding. Josh's strong work ethic, positive attitude, and attention to details will assist in his continual success. Keep up the good work.

Kylee Graper is an outstanding member in band.  She is someone who will go the extra mile to make sure the program is successful.  She has played multiple instruments in D'Evelyn's band but most importantly - she is a leader by example.  She has one of the strongest work ethics that I have ever had the privilege of teaching.  Kylee is a rock star!

Tony Adams is an excellent bass clarinet player.  He is a hard worker and always comes to class prepared.  Tony is always looking for more challenging music and strives to be the best he can be.  He was recently selected as first chair bass clarinet of Junior high all county honor band.  Tony is amazing!

Throughout period 2 art this semester, Morgan Mitchell has been an outstanding art student.  She is a careful, meticulous artist who is willing to work outside of class to really bring her work up to a high level of craftsmanship and polish.  Morgan really engages with the projects and generates creative ideas easily.  She is an enthusiastic and positive force in the art room!  Congratulations, Morgan!

~ Continuing Parent Announcements ~

~Be sure to stop by the school store for any last minute gifts.  We just restocked all our our hats - winter, baseball (both men and women), and bucket!! Stadium seats make great gifts while also saving your back when you are cheering on the JAGS.  Store hours this week are Tues/Thurs during lunch and Wednesday 2-2:40pm.  You can always email if you need anything.  Thanks for your support!

~Important!!  We have an update with regard to our lottery and enrollment for the 19-20 school yearStarting December 17, 2018 you can access EnrollJeffco School Finder to view profiles for all of our Jeffco Schools.  EnrollJeffco is slated to “go live” on January 22, 2019.  The deadline for completing the application for our first round lottery is February 8, 2019.  During this window, you log in and complete the choice enrollment application.  Because you currently have a student at D’Evelyn, you are not required to attend a parent information meeting but you must complete the on-line application during the window (January 22-February 8) to be added to the sibling priority lottery group.

Jeffco Connect credentials will be your log in.  Please make sure your log in works and review and update emergency contact information.  Call Susan Brown in counseling if you need assistance with Jeffco Connect log in.

D’Evelyn Giving Tree  --  “Paws for a Cause”

We would like to invite D’Evelyn families to consider participating in “Paws for a Cause” -- the D’Evelyn Giving Tree Gift Drive.

If you would like to provide a gift to support a local family, you or your student can stop by the Jags Giving Tree display in the office.  Each of the Paw ornaments on the tree has a gift or age on the front as well as instructions on the back.  Feel free to take an ornament or two and then bring back the gift before December 18th.

This is a great opportunity for D’Evelyn students to care for families and friends in our community!

In addition, if you know of a family that is in need of assistance this Holiday Season…or if your family could use a helping hand, please contact Sonya Sotolongo at 303-982-2619 in the main office. If you have any questions about the Jags Giving Tree please contact Kelly Morris at  Thanks in advance for your generosity!!!

~Holiday Shopping via Amazon ? AmazonSmile is a simple way for D'Evelyn community members to support our school.  AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your purchases to the charity (D'Evelyn Education Foundation). It costs you and D'Evelyn nothing, and it's just like shopping on Amazon normally. Items that are eligible for donations will be marked as such on their product pages. The only real catch is you must start your shopping at  which, in my opinion, is a small price to pay to have a portion of your purchases go to D'Evelyn!

~Hey Jags, keep collecting those Box Tops.  When you bring them in please make sure they are not expired.  The collection box is located just inside the doors of the front office. Thanks for your continued support!
