PARENTS:

~The January Student Scholars of the Month are as follows:

Julia Narva has shown tremendous growth in English class since the beginning of the school year. Julia came to D'Evelyn without a strong grammar background, then applied herself so diligently in the parts of speech unit that she emerged a grammar ninja! Julia is meticulous in her work and in her writing, and day after day strives to put forth her best effort. Her positive attitude and attention to detail are a shining example to her peers

Liam Smith is a dream student to work with.  Not only is he punctual with assignments, but he constantly strives to improve himself.  He always has his hand up, eager to participate, and he can always be counted on to look for a new idea and to open to new ideas. - Lynne Hobbs

Not only is Kayla Erickson extraordinarily gifted in reading and interpreting classic literature, she also possesses a genuine interest and passion for it. Kayla does not view the readings as a class requirement but as an opportunity to explore new and/or controversial ideas, and what's most refreshing about her passion is that she's not afraid to share it with her peers and her teachers. Put simply: Kayla enthusiastically adds another layer of insight and complexity to the English class that is admirable and inspiring. - Steve Falconi

I nominate 9th grader Julian Castro for Student of the Month. Playing both soccer in the fall and basketball this winter, Julian still works hard and dedicates a great deal of time and effort to his studies. He participates often in class and is always thinking deeply about what we've read. He adds to our discussions of novels and is a role model for his peers. Julian is honest, trustworthy and an all-around awesome young man. It is a privilege to be his teacher. - Kristine Sweney

PARENTS:

~ Continuing Parent Announcements ~

~Each month coaches have the opportunity to nominate athletes for Student Athlete of the Month. In order to be selected for this prestigious award, athletes must be academically eligible every week and make significant contributions to their teams, in the eyes of their coaches

The female Student Athlete for January is Lexi Szathmary.

Making Varsity as a freshman last year, Lexi got a taste of what playing on a Top 10 was like.  This year she’s been asked to use that experience and step into a starting role as the lone sophomore on Varsity.  Through 12 games it’s pretty clear she’s ready for the challenge!

The Jags are 10-2 as league play gets started and Lexi’s play is a big reason why.  She leads a balanced scoring attack with just over 10 points per game.  She also leads in steals, is 2nd in assists, and contributes 4 rebounds a game.  Oh, and she probably leads the team in floor burns and knee bruises, too!  She scored a team high 19 points in a big win against Roosevelt and has grabbed 10 rebounds twice already.  But the best part about her game is how she has grown in terms of taking care of the basketball.  She has shown great discipline since the first couple of games and it’s growth like that we’ll need as our schedule gets much tougher.  Lexi plays with a quiet confidence and a burning competitive spirit that is contagious to her teammates.  We are lucky to have her on our team and look forward to many more years of her leadership.

Congratulations Lexi

Lexi was nominated by Coach Olson

The male Student Athlete of the Month for January is Camden Jahr.

Coming into the season, the team knew that Cam would be a big part of whatever success we found. He is a legitimate scorer and a threat to drain in shots at any moment. While he got off to a rough start, he has regained his confidence and has begun to hit his stride. In our last four games, he is averaging 15 points per game (including 28 points in our win against Green Mountain). He shot 45% from the 3-point line during that same stretch. Cam has also stepped up his rebounding, movement, and defensive intensity. He has truly become one of our “Go To” guys on the court. We are excited to see what he has in store the rest of the season.

Congratulations Camden!

Camden was nominated by Coach Zinn

Items donated will be used in care packages for deployed troops, veterans, first responders, wounded heroes and caregivers. Items such as wipes, batteries, travel size deodorant, & hand warmers. Also, please include any letters that express your gratitude for the people who protect our freedom!

~Be sure to stop by the school store for any last minute gifts.  We just restocked all our our hats - winter, baseball (both men and women), and bucket!! Stadium seats make great gifts while also saving your back when you are cheering on the JAGS.  Store hours this week are Tues/Thurs during lunch and Wednesday 2-2:40pm.  You can always email jagsschoolstore@gmail.com if you need anything.  Thanks for your support!

~Important!!  We have an update with regard to our lottery and enrollment for the 19-20 school yearStarting December 17, 2018 you can access EnrollJeffco School Finder to view profiles for all of our Jeffco Schools.  EnrollJeffco is slated to “go live” on January 22, 2019.  The deadline for completing the application for our first round lottery is February 8, 2019.  During this window, you log in and complete the choice enrollment application.  Because you currently have a student at D’Evelyn, you are not required to attend a parent information meeting but you must complete the on-line application during the window (January 22-February 8) to be added to the sibling priority lottery group.

Jeffco Connect credentials will be your log in.  Please make sure your log in works and review and update emergency contact information.  Call Susan Brown in counseling if you need assistance with Jeffco Connect log in.

~Get Involved. Serve on a Hiring Committee

At the December 11th Accountability meeting in the library, Steering will present a training on what is required to serve on a hiring committee. This opportunity is open to the D’Evelyn community but to be chosen to serve on a committee, you must first attend this training.

Please join us on December 11th at 5:30 pm when Principal Josh Griffin will present on our school data and Unified Improvement Plan and a Steering Committee member will provide a training for anyone interested in serving on a hiring committee.  We hope to see you there.

D’Evelyn Giving Tree  --  “Paws for a Cause”

We would like to invite D’Evelyn families to consider participating in “Paws for a Cause” -- the D’Evelyn Giving Tree Gift Drive.

If you would like to provide a gift to support a local family, you or your student can stop by the Jags Giving Tree display in the office.  Each of the Paw ornaments on the tree has a gift or age on the front as well as instructions on the back.  Feel free to take an ornament or two and then bring back the gift before December 18th.

This is a great opportunity for D’Evelyn students to care for families and friends in our community!

In addition, if you know of a family that is in need of assistance this Holiday Season…or if your family could use a helping hand, please contact Sonya Sotolongo at 303-982-2619 in the main office. If you have any questions about the Jags Giving Tree please contact Kelly Morris at morris.kellya@gmail.com.  Thanks in advance for your generosity!!!

~Holiday Shopping via Amazon ? AmazonSmile is a simple way for D'Evelyn community members to support our school.  AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your purchases to the charity (D'Evelyn Education Foundation). It costs you and D'Evelyn nothing, and it's just like shopping on Amazon normally. Items that are eligible for donations will be marked as such on their product pages. The only real catch is you must start your shopping at smile.amazon.com  which, in my opinion, is a small price to pay to have a portion of your purchases go to D'Evelyn!

~BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION:

~Hey Jags, keep collecting those Box Tops.  When you bring them in please make sure they are not expired.  The collection box is located just inside the doors of the front office. Thanks for your continued support!
